The people holding it together
Yemberzal is run by its members. 8 people carry the roles for 2026-27, and most of them joined in the collective’s first few weeks.

Who started it
The two who began Yemberzal in 2026, and the roles they carry in 2026-27.
Co-founded Yemberzal in 2026. Works closely with writers on drafts, oral histories, and the term's reading list, and hosts the discussion nights on the Kashmiri Sufi saints.

Who runs the year
Co-ordinators, events, outreach, speaking, and hospitality for the 2026-27 term.
Picks the monthly stories for the reading circle and keeps the term calendar on track.
Hosts the showcase evenings and photographs them, with each person's consent.
Sorts out lawn permissions, sound, and seating before anyone else arrives.
First point of contact for women members. Writes the gathering notices and gathers voice notes from campus.
Opens our evening sittings, introduces the readings, and makes sure quieter members get the floor.
Keeps the kettle on, hands out cups, and holds a place in the circle for whoever arrives late.
Ten members across four departments
We do not list every general member by name. A list like that goes stale in a month and puts people on display. Counts are updated each term, and written consent is on file for every name shown here.
One year, then handover
Roles run for one academic year. Outgoing leads train their replacements over a month so a handover takes an afternoon and the next batch never starts from scratch.
Yemberzal began in 2026 with Atif Qadri and Musavir Mir, who continue to serve in the 2026-27 term.
Picture yourself inside it
Roles open each September, and anyone who has joined the collective can ask to shadow or step in.
