Our commitment
Everyone who comes to a Yemberzal gathering should feel safe, heard, and free to leave at any point. This code is how we keep that promise, and it gives us grounds to act when something goes wrong.
Code of conduct · Agreed October 2026
Agreed by the collective for the 2026-27 year so everyone who walks into a sitting knows where the boundaries stand.
Eight clauses
Applies to every gathering, group chat, and campus chapter.

Speak from your own experience and let others finish. Ask before photographing, quoting, or naming anyone. Respect off the record requests the first time. Make room for juniors and quiet voices. Clean up after the event like it was your own room.
Harassment, intimidation, and discrimination of any kind. Sharing someone's identity, story, or photograph without consent. Repeated interruption, put-downs, or dominating discussion. Bringing alcohol or intoxicants to collective events.
Much of what we discuss touches home, family, and loss. What is said in a gathering stays in the gathering unless the speaker agrees otherwise. Notes and recaps name no one without explicit permission.
Write to [email protected] with the word Conduct in the subject, or speak to the convenor in person. You may bring a friend. Anonymous reports are accepted and treated with the same care.
Two members, at least one of them senior, read the report within three days. They speak to the people involved separately, keep notes in one place, and tell the reporter what will happen next. The reporter's name is shared no further than these two without permission.
Depending on what happened: a private conversation, a request to sit out one gathering, or removal from the collective and its groups. Serious cases are put to the full member meeting.
This code covers gatherings, group chats, this site, and anything done in the collective's name, on any campus.
